Deputy Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces major general Veiko-Vello Palm

Major General Veiko-Vello Palm is the Deputy Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces as of 19 June 2021. In the years 2018-2021 he was the Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces.

Major General Veiko-Vello Palm started his military career as a conscript in 1992. From 1992–1994 he studied in the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. After serving shortly as a platoon sergeant in 1994–1995 he graduated from Officers’ Course in 1996 and continued his service as a platoon leader in the same Infantry Company.

From 1997 – 2001 he completed his studies in the Finnish Military Academy, where he also studied at the General Staff Officer Course from 2003 – 2005. He has served in various positions in the Army Headquarters and Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF HQ), and has been the Chief of Staff in Tapa Training Centre.

From 2009 to 2011 he served in the NATO Multinational Corps Northeast Headquarters as a staff officer in G3 branch. From 2012 to 2015 he was the Director of Defence Planning Department in the Estonian Ministry of Defence. He has been deployed twice to Afghanistan – to HQ ISAF in 2007 and HQ IJC in 2010. From 2015 to 2018 Brigadier General Palm served as the Commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade.

In June 2021 he was appointed as the Deputy Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces. In the years 2018-2021 he was the Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces.

He has been decorated with the Estonian State Decoration “The Order of the Cross of the Eagle (III class)”.

He is married and has two (adult) children.
