Commander

In peacetime the Estonian Defence Forces and the national defence organisations are led by the Chief of the Defence, in wartime by the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces.

The Chief of the Defence and the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces are appointed and released from office by the Parliament on the proposal of the President of the Republic.

As of December 5, 2018 Estonian Defence Forces and national defence organisations are led by the Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Martin Herem.

Major General Veiko-Vello Palm is the Deputy Chief of the Estonian Defence Forces as of 19 June 2021. In the years 2018-2021 he was the Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces.
