During a formal ceremony held at the Paldiski military base on Tuesday, August 12, Command Sergeant Major Enn Adoson handed over the position of Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Defence Forces to Sergeant Major Andreas Rebane.
„It is a great honor for me to continue my service in the role of the Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Defence Forces. My long-standing service in key non-commissioned officer positions, along with a clear understanding of the organization’s values and objectives, will undoubtedly support the fulfillment of the duties entrusted to me,” said Sergeant Major Andreas Rebane. „I believe that by applying my and other non-commissioned officers’ skills, knowledge, and service experience we will be a valuable asset to the Commander of the Defence Forces and to the organization as a whole. Through personal example, we can influence the mindset of today’s servicemembers, including reservists, across the entire organization,“ added Sergeant Major Rebane.
Sergeant Major Rebane confirmed that he will continue along the path established by Command Sergeant Major Enn Adoson regarding the role, responsibilities, and tasks of the position. „The main goal remains to ensure, maintain, and develop the continuity of the Defence Forces through the unit Sergeant Majors,” added Sergeant Major Rebane.
Sergeant Major Andreas Rebane began his service in 1994, passing conscription in the Internal Security Regiment. He has served in Scouts Battalion as both company sergeant and battalion Sergeant Major, as well as a staff non-commissioned officer (NCO) in the Joint Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces, and as Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Infantry Brigade. For the past two years, he served as Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Division. He has been deployed to operations in Lebanon, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and has served at the headquarters of NATO Multinational Division North.
Sergeant Major Rebane been recognized with the Estonian Defence Forces’ Distinguished Service Medal for Combat Merits, Estonian Defence Forces’ Cross for Contributions to National Defence, the Estonian Defence Forces’ Distinguished Service Medal, the Estonian Defence Forces’ Long Term Service Medal, and the Estonian Defence.
„My duties are being taken over by Sergeant Major Andreas Rebane, with whom I have had the honor to serve in various units. He is a highly dedicated and experienced non-commissioned officer,” said former Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Defence Forces Sergeant Major Enn Adoson. “Throughout his career, he has held all key NCO positions, which has given him a lot of experience. This will certainly serve him well in succeeding in the role of Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Defence Forces. I wish him patience and a steady hand.”
Sergeant Major Enn Adoson served as the Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Defence Forces from March 21, 2019.
„Looking back at my 30 years of service, I am very grateful to the Estonian Defence Forces for allowing me to contribute to its development — particularly over the past six years in the role of Command Sergeant Major of the Estonian Defence Forces. Unfortunately, I will no longer be in active service to witness the implementation of many of the decisions made during those years, but I will continue to observe as a reservist,” said Sergeant Major Adoson. „I thank all the servicemembers and personnel who have supported me throughout this 30-year journey. Thank you for your service and for continuing to defend a free Estonia!”
The Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Andrus Merilo, honored Sergeant Major Enn Adoson with a personalized firearm. Major General Indrek Sirel, Commander of the Estonian Division, recognized Sergeant Major Rebane with the Gold Cross of the Estonian Land Forces.
Previously, Command Sergeant Major Enn Adoson served as a senior staff NCO at the Joint Headquarters of the Defence Forces, as a Command Sergeant Major in the 1st Infantry Brigade, Sergeant Major in Scouts Battalion, and as a staff NCO at NATO’s Joint Force Command Brunssum.
