Due to the Spring Storm exercise, there may be an increased number of military convoys and heavy equipment on the roads.
From May 10 to May 12, movements of military convoys and heavy equipment will primarily take place along the Tapa – Mäo – Imavere – Viljandi route. From Viljandi, the convoys will continue either towards Kilingi-Nõmme, Abja-Paluoja, or Karksi-Nuia.
Military vehicles will travel at a maximum speed of 70 km/h on paved roads, with convoys reaching up to 25 vehicles in length. The Defence Forces requests patience from other road users and recommends planning more time to reach destinations safely.
Additionally, traffic changes will occur from May 13 to May 17 due to the establishment of control checkpoints as part of the Spring Storm exercise:
On Highway 6 between Abja-Paluoja and Kilingi-Nõmme, the road will be impassable from 06:00 to 22:00 and passable from 22:00 to 06:00.
On the 24181 Abja-Paluoja – Sarja – Tõlla route, the road will be impassable from 06:00 to 22:00 and passable from 22:00 to 06:00.
In both cases, the control checkpoint areas will be active in both directions, and traffic will be rerouted by the military. The traffic management changes apply in both directions. Spring Storm is the largest annual exercise of the Estonian Defence Forces, during which military operations planning and execution are practiced, as well as enhanced cooperation between Estonian and allied units.
