As of August 1, 2024, Major General Rauno Sirk assumed the position of Deputy Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF).
„Both the Estonian Defence Forces and national defence in general have been dynamic in recent times and we have acquired and are developing many new capabilities. Pace has been extremely fast, goals significant and responsibility even greater, but the team has been up to the task. Estonia has been and will remain defended,“ said the new Deputy Commander of Estonian Defence Forces MG Rauno Sirk.
Before his new assignment MG Sirk served as the Estonian representative in NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). His earlier most notable assignments have included Commander of the Estonian Air Force and the Director of Estonian Center for Defence Investments.
In addition he has served as the Commander of the EDF Air Base and Chief of Staff of Estonian Air Force.
General Major Sirk joined the Estonian Defence Forces in 1993 with enrolling in the Estonian Military Academy. In addition to many courses on leadership and air force, he has graduated the United States Air War College.
MG Sirk has received a multitude of awards and decorations, of which the most significant are Order of the Cross of Eagle – IV class (EDF), Distinguished Service Cross (EDF) and Long Service Medal (EDF). In 2014 he was given the award for Officer of the Year (EDF).
